"I think one of the reasons I slept so poorly last night, was I came to terms with the overwhelming amount of school work that I have to do in the next few. I will just watch a lot of Hackers, and put the "it's a worm!" scene on loop. Somehow this will make me better at math. I'm not sure, but it seems to make sense..."

Woo!

Hey Trent Math, I'm going to send you a deadly bomb.

I just got 100% on the two math papers I handed in, let's keep this going.

Poor formatting in my humble opinion, but what sound advice for us all.

I'm starting to lose traction across the board right now, but I gotta remember, to just stay in the mother fucking vase right now. I got a 50% on the last Pure Math quiz, which is unfortunate, because it belied my fundamental lack of understanding about power sets, and injections/surjections. Still, I'm running at 20.58 / 24, at the top of the class.

Just stay in the vase. It will all come together soon.

I had a morning of unrestrained noobiness.

I got up a couple hours late, skipped a couple classes, and didn't ask someone out. This means, I missed handing in a paper, and learning anything about Euthyphro, anything about domains, and co-domains, and an opportunity to eat fries with someone I fancy. Deplorable. Deplorable.

A prof volunteered me to write the Putnam this year, when I'm not really interested in getting slapped around in that way. Now I've gotta study my ass off for Dec. 1st so I can impress this guy, or at least make a valiant stand. Gah.

I got my bus ticket back to London, maybe it will be nice to see those familiar streets. Hopefully. I really don't want to go "home." I'd rather have my stuff magically get tele-ported here. The new plan for reading week is to hopefully crash chez [info]sonjaaa for a day or two, then maybe with Derek, or Christian. Maybe I should see if I can not go to Ailsa Craig, but rather travel the world in a magical mystery balloon, or back alley trash can.

Parker Learned A Lesson Today!

He can't study in front of his laptop, it is way too neat!

The amount of ways I've distracted myself today has been uncountably infinite. Really.

As a corollary of this, I've gotta start packing up the laptop before I start studying, because I really accomplished so little today. I don't know what this means for that studying with music is impossible. I'm not sure on the details there yet. Maybe I will simply have to go offline when I wanna get some work done. Another possibility is doing all my stuff long hand, then typing it up. The problem with that solution is that I don't have a sufficiently comfy chair in a secluded place to work. Maybe I'll fall in with Stephanie, and study at Haäselton's.

Woo! I got invited to do a custom tailored reading course this summer by a professor. The prof. is a huge logic junky, and a weirdo. I think he wants to introduce me to model theory, and probably boggle my mind. Maybe we'll do some work around arithmetics.

As you can see, his website says he is a fan of doing reading courses. So maybe I'll have to put some thought into this.

Gah! I'm pissed with myself.

Laziness, and a sense of pomp, just lost me five percent on my homework set. The problem specifically asked for typifications of the truth tables into tautologies, contradictions, or contingencies. I did that for the first two tables, then left that last three bare. It made my work look sloppy, even though I went all the way as to code it in LaTeX. The prof. also said my tables "leave too much to the imagination." But, I mean really what imagination is there in a truth table....

Oh well, I guess it (hopefully) won't happen again. Maybe I'll do better on the set I just handed in.

This is so frustrating.

ASL yesterday was incredible. We had our first silent class, which was fascinating. The dynamic was very different. My finger-spelling seems quite strong compared to the other students. We learned some facial grammar, and simple concepts like COPY, UNDERSTAND, FORGET, useful stuff. I like signing with my prof, she is intensely playful.

Then I went out and saw 3:10 to Yuma. Riahl and Drew went out with me, and it was incredible.

Wow. That was a crazy week. The sort of thing that makes pull a load of laundry out of the washer, stand awkwardly in front of the fridge, with the laundry soggy in your arms, and wonder "Wait, what am I doing?"

I've realized the amount of work I took on in school is Herculean, and I'm going to really have to bust some serious moves to make it all come off well. Right now there is a lot of overlap, and hence, I'm starting to think in prepositional calculus. Very rapidly, I've symbolized most of my proofs, so I can see where Chad gets it from. This year him and I share a number of courses, and travel in a little herd. There a couple other students who sally along with us, and most of them I recognize from first year.

My prof.s seem to admire me, and think I'm reasonably in the game. I think that this might give me some leveraging power down the road. I worry about coming off as an ass-hat to my class mates.

All Things to All People

Today, the first day of school, was absolutely awesome. Very enjoyable. I had: Ancient Phil., Multivariate Calculus, Introduction to Pure Math, and Phil. of Science. There is an awkward pause between Ancient, and the rest of my classes, but I took the time to go and hang out with [info]commandantrobot.

Classes are becoming more and more narrow, and my friends are aggregating upwardly. Most of my philosophically inclined buddies are in Ancient, and the mathematically inclined ones are in Pure of course. My prof.s are pretty awesome too, though the Calc. guy is a little hard to understand. My Science prof is very fresh, and a wee bit awkward. Luckily, he gets bonus points for being adorable and incredibly attractive.

In other good news, I got the marking job for the math department. So now I'll be marking Zhou and Tanese's MATH110 quizzes and assignments.

I just feel like I'm spreading myself too thin. I've got two jobs, attend two post secondary institutions, and am seriously over booked. When I get my schedule to Prof. Yassawi, it'll be full up. Hah.

School!

I went to pick up my pay-check at Timmies today, a modest $331.58. I split it in half, and put some away for going abroad next summer. It's nice being payed again however, I felt giddy. They also managed to explain why I was so ridiculous short on hours; I hadn't been shifted to regular staff yet. This makes sense I suppose, but that means that during the two weeks I really could have milked that job for cash, I couldn't. Such is life.

When I was walking up George St with paycheck in hand, I ran into Drew and Katelyn! I was so happy to see those guys again, it was fucking awesome! I zipped off though, because they were headed to lunch, and I didn't want to interrupt. Good times though. [info]commandantrobot is coming up tommorow! Maybe she'll like her gift. This is such a singularly exciting time.

My writing is terrible today. I apologize.

I'm not sure what's going on, but I've been feeling really scattered recently. I want to chase after so many things that I'm forgetting that I need to be building up survival skills. These aren't the tie your shoes, walk on the sidewalk, don't eat the yellow snow kind of survival skills. I think I need to start seriously considering where my university education can take me, because so far I've been wandering along doing what is pleasurable, what I am good at.

The problem is I'm doing marvelously well with the easy stuff. I am okay with the math, which is probably the most useful, and the basic philosophy stuff. But why am I pursuing philo. it isn't going to get me anywhere. I've been angsting out, battling with myself since I would like to be studying linguistics, but with the amount of negative encouragement / reenforcement I've received from language learning, I'm afraid to approach the subject. I'm not sure I should know where to go, or what to do, but I've been feeling an increasing inward pressure to know.

I would like to start exploring what the university can do for me, how I can get them to work for me, and ideally pay for me. Next-next year I'd like them to send me abroad some time.

First Year: That's a (NOT) wrap, folks!

Heh, I know I said it was a wrap a couple months ago, but things didn't go quite right, and I wound up taking another course.

Well, the marks are in:

PHIL-101-A Intro to Philosophical Inquiry 88
PHIL-105-A Practical Reasoning 89
MATH-110-A Calculus of One Variable 93
MATH-135H-A Linear Algebra I: Matrices 91
MATH-235H-A Linear Algebra II: Vectors 86
COSC-101H The Digital World 88

Term GPA: 89.115

Sucks that my average went down too, but at least I'm getting closer to the five first years I need.
